🪼🪼No Bones, No Brains, No Blood, No Heart – must be a Jellyfish!🪼🪼

Updated: Apr 9, 2024

Are you fascinated and a little bit freaked out by Jellyfish? Can’t blame you.  As a species they are the oldest multi-organ animals to inhabit the earth at around a mere 600 million years and with that track record the are likely to be around way longer than we are.  In fact, one kind of Jellyfish, called Turritopsis Dohrnii is considered biologically immortal, able to change from its adult form back to its baby form over and over again.  Pretty cool trick for a creature with no brain.

Jellyfish can be found in every ocean, warm or cold, shallow or deep, even some freshwater lakes and ponds.  And just to freak you out a little bit more, did you know that 150 million people per year are stung by jellyfish?  That’s 285 people per minute! So based on statistics you are 3 times more likely to be stung by a Jellyfish than be injured in a car crash – that’s A LOT of Jellyfish.  Good thing lots of predators eat them like candy! Giant Sunfish, tuna, sharks, sea turtles, some seabirds and bigger whales just to name a few, all chow down on Jellies.

Beautiful and uncomfortably alien, how could I not design mittens sporting some freaky cool Jellyfish!
